THE POSITION:
  • Seeking a full-time DivisionDirector of Clinical Pharmacy Services responsible for Clinical pharmacy activities at all HCA facilitieswithin the division to include but not limited to:
  • Clinicalinitiatives that impact drug utilization, clinical education and staffdevelopment, management of appropriate drug utilization, drug spend analysis,and quality improvement activities.
  • Provides supportfor all clinical activities at division facilities, centralized order entrycenter and consolidated pharmacy.
  • Develop and oversee standardized clinical pharmacy program fordivision/facilities
  • Provides guidance to facilities regarding JCAHO, CMS, NQSF and FDAstandards.
  • Assists in preparation of annual facility clinical interventionsavings budgets
  • Develops annual clinical pharmacy business plan in conjunctionwith clinical pharmacy group that ensures positive patient outcomes andappropriate drug utilization
  • Oversee Clinical Pharmacy Subcommittees
  • Assist in division formulary development through review of primaryliterature
  • Analyze drug spend trends to identify areas of opportunity andimplement appropriate use/development of protocols and guidelines
  • Provides supporting documentation, “white papers” or otherinformation needed to facilitate P&T Committee preparation as needed
  • Ensures provision of education and support at HCA facilities withregard to clinical pharmacy responsibilities, clinical protocol justification,execution and implementation. Provides education through HPG and HCA supportvia webinar, tele-conference, live or other communication
  • Prepare clinical portion of monthly Pharmacy Key PerformanceIndicator report
  • Ensures appropriate and effective use of clinical interventiontemplate
  • Provides periodic review of documented clinical interventions andprovides summary reports and recommendations to facilities on quality/contentof documentation
  • Maintain effective communication with facility directors andleadership teams on clinical initiatives and facility and division results
  • Assists in development of “best practice” recommendations forclinical procedures to minimize adverse events and ensure compliance withregulatory standards
  • Participate in quality improvement, fiscal and productivity goalsand objectives with upper management
  • Assist in preparation and implementation of facility policy and proceduresas needed
  • Ensure pharmacy departments are meeting market share goals
  • Facilitates review of division ADE/ADR reports to work onidentifying trends and process improvement initiatives
  • Serve as liaison with local pharmacy schools to develop relationship,manage division agreement, and coordinate rotation sites.
  • Develop and maintainclinical portion of division website
  • Assist in preparation and implementation of pharmacy staffcompetencies related to clinical activities
  • Facilitates creation of a Division education program for pharmacyand CSC staff to promote improved patient care. Creates annual CE schedule
  • Completes Quarterly clinical pharmacy newsletter for facilitypharmacy departments
  • Perform other duties as assigned by DDOP
  • Practice and adhere to the “Code of Conduct” philosophy and“Mission and Value Statement”
  • Participate in HCA Corporate Quality Clinical Advisory and othercommittees as needed.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Knowledge – Has thorough knowledge of medications and clinicalpharmacy activities. Able to interpret literature to provide formulary guidanceand pharmacoeconomic data

EDUCATION 
  • Pharm.D. required
  • Residency Training or BCPS certification preferred
EXPERIENCE
  • Five to ten (5-10) years’ experience as a clinical pharmacist in ahospital setting
  • Previous experience as a clinical coordinator or director inlarge, complex facility preferred
 
CERTIFICATE/LICENSE
  • Licensed pharmacist
 
PHYSICALDEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS Requires prolonged sitting, some bending, stooping andstretching. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient tooperate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and other officeequipment. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare andcommunicate appropriate reports. Requires lifting papers or boxes up to 50pounds occasionally. May be exposed to toxic/caustic/chemicals/detergents. Workis performed in a hospital (pharmacy, nursing units, etc.) Work may bestressful at times. Contact may involve dealing with angry or upset people.Staff must remain flexible and available to provide staffing assistance forany/all disaster or emergency situations.
