Job Summary – Position is responsible to assist with oversight and management of oncology pharmacy stewardship at all acute care facilities providing cancer services within HCA. Oncology pharmacy stewardship includes clinical initiatives that impact drug utilization, clinical education and staff development, operational optimization of oncology products, management of appropriate drug utilization through clinical pathway development, pharmacoeconomic analysis, and quality improvement activities.
Duties (included, but not limited to):
  •  Ensures provision of education and support at HCA facilities with regard to clinical protocol justification, execution and implementation.
  • Facilitates the development and update of policies, procedures, clinical pathways, order sets, and treatment guidelines.
  • Develops Key Performance Indicators and Dashboards related to Oncology Drug Utilization
  • Assists in development of “best practice” recommendations for all areas of oncology drug management
  • Provides expertise and input to facilities on evidence based drug therapy, drug and dose optimization, PD and PK dosing, appropriate utilization protocols and drug restrictions related to oncology drugs
  • Assists in preparation and implementation of pharmacy staff competencies related to oncology drug management and clinical activities
  • Work with pharmacy leadership to analyze drug spend trends to identify areas of opportunity and implement appropriate use/development of protocols and guidelines
  • Provides supporting documentation, “white papers” or other information needed to facilitate P&T Committee preparation as needed
  • Maintain effective communication with facility directors and leadership teams on clinical initiatives and facility and division results
  • Assists in development of “best practice” recommendations for clinical and operational procedures to minimize adverse events and ensure compliance with regulatory standards
  • Facilitate the development of publications/abstracts across the Network
  • Participate in quality improvement, fiscal and productivity goals and objectives
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

Doctor of Pharmacy degree.
5 or more years of experience as a clinical oncology pharmacist in a hospital setting, preferably with some BMT experience. Must have thorough knowledge of oncology medications and clinical oncology pharmacy activities. Able to interpret literature to provide formulary, clinical pathway guidance and pharmacoeconomic data. Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. Requires public speaking and presentation skills.
Active pharmacy license, but convert to TN license within 12 months of hire.
