Job Summary

The Manager of Sustainabilitywill lead a comprehensive sustainability program for HealthTrust, focusing effortson general environmental, sustainable product procurement, waste elimination,toxicity reduction, energy and water improvement initiatives. This will be accomplished by effectivelyincorporating environmentally preferable purchasing (EPP) into the sourcing processand by providing member and employee information and education on relatedsustainability initiatives.

The role will manage theactivities of the member-comprised Environmental Sustainability Network (ESN), andwill collaborate with the sourcing team to review related EPP considerations aspart of the supplier RFP process. The identification of sustainability-related attributescan be used as differentiators in making recommendations to advisory boardsduring the contract award process. The manager will collaborate with applicablestakeholders, including regional, state, or national sustainabilityorganizations, and support the implementation of related industry initiativesand standards.

Duties (included butnot limited to):

  • Provide sustainabilityeducation (internal and external).
  • Ensure sustainabilityfactors are considered thoroughly during category sourcing events.
  • Ensure sustainabilityinformation is readily available to members in HealthTrust member portal, andcontract packages.
  • Ensure thatHealthTrust’s program supports member sustainability goals and objectives.
  • Consult industryresources and experts for continuing education related to environmental issuesof concern for healthcare and communicate relevant information to themembership and appropriate internal teams.
  • Collaborate with Food& Nutrition director to advance member access to local and regionalresources for sustainable food purchases as well as increased availability ofoptions that are antibiotic- and GMO-free. Address emerging needs as knownhuman health impacts arise. Continue to urge suppliers in this space to keep upwith industry and member needs.
  • Integrate withFacilities & Infrastructure and other contracting teams on key categories indeveloping relationships with supplier sustainability officers to provideincreased levels of EPP-related information to HealthTrust members both at theline-item level and at the level that identifies supplier corporate commitmentsto environmental responsibility.
  • Develop strategies andactively participate with industry organizations and other GPOs as appropriate,to advance data standardization or other key issues across the healthcareindustry.
  • Represent HealthTrust’sprogram and/or member needs at related industry eventsand meetings.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required;
  • Demonstrated success insustainability program management in a healthcare setting.
  • 5 years of relatedhealthcare or sustainability industry experience
